Russell Simmons on Fur
Russell Simmons takes a moment to deliver a serious message to fashion designers to look into fur alternatives when creating their collections. He did so while being interviewed by Amber Lee Ettinger backstage at the Isaac Mizrahi Fall 2010 fashion show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Irina Shabayeva Fall 2010
Irina Shabayeva’s show was amazing, one of the best of Fashion Week so far. Her abundant talent was on display as she took inspiration from birds and feathers and created new animal prints. Cats have been done, she says, here’s another animal print for you! Her clothes made a statement while still being wearable; a rare feat these days. (Okay, a few dresses where way over the top, yes, but it was a fashion show after all.) Irina’s blending of fur, feather, and leather worked well in creating a very distinctive line. No wonder she’s a winner of Project Runway.
Her show featured a runway display, followed up by “casual” modeling where each look was presented by having the models stand on the runway giving long looks at the designs. A very nice touch we thought, it certainly added to the evening’s impact. It was both a runway show and a presentation all in one. All fashion shows should be this way, in our opinion.
Overheard backstage was that one of the models was a no-show, so another model was pressed to show a few additional looks. Kudos to the model who had to do double duty. But perhaps the tardy model made it at the last second, because the show went off without a hitch from where we stood.
Thanks Irina and your whole staff for delighting us properly!

Crystal Jin Swimwear
Check out Crystal Jin Swimwear! The line is known for its luxurious, European influenced swimwear. Patterns and prints are bold and colorful, yet sophisticated where you will not be mistaken for a cast member of The Jersey Shore. No matter what beach, boat, or blanket you’re on, you’ll look like you belong in St. Tropez, Ibiza, or South Beach. (Assuming you’re not there already!)
The suits feature expert hand finishing and hardware made exclusively for the line. On many on the bikinis and monokinis you’ll find these subtle rings and crimps that add more than a touch of upscale charm. We find these touches to be very sexy and appealing. It is a unique flair that makes you feel like your suit was hand crafted just for you as a second skin.
We at StyFy put together this video that showcases some of our favorite suits from the line. Enjoy!

She was one of the participants in the Innovating sustainable Fashion Show where design students from Denmark were competing on their ability to combine corporate social responsibility and fashion in an innovative design. Know Your Enemy
Another insightful video from NATO TV regarding the war in Afghanistan. We figure that the Afghan Army is more likely to bring stability to Afghanistan than the Iraqi Army will bring to Iraq. Why? Because the Afghans are less likely to cut and run than the Iraqis. The Afghans fought off the Russians, while the Iraqis are notorious for surrendering.

Rotavirus Deaths Way Down in Nicaragua
Good news! Vaccines provided by the UN, the WHO, GAVI, and charitable NGO’s have dramatically decreased the number of rotavirus deaths in children in Nicaragua.
In young children, rotavirus disease is characterized by diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and severe dehydration. Death is caused by dehydration due to rotavirus infection, not by the virus itself. Diarrheal disease caused by rotavirus is the second leading cause of death worldwide in children under 5 years of age.
(The leading cause of death worldwide in children under 5 years of age is Malaria. It kills one child every 30 seconds. That’s the bad news.)

Isaac Mizrahi: Putting on the Ritz
With Amber Lee Ettinger.
Isaac Mizrahi returns to New York Fashion Week with a big splash. His show, which he tagged “Astaire Case or Obstacle Course” was styled after the backlot of a movie soundstage circa 1936. Think of the Golden Age of Hollywood, of RKO Pictures, of Astaire and Rogers and you’ll have the right image. The show used up all the space between the seats, and sent the models down the catwalk in slow, swooping curves. It was by far the best staged show of the entire week. Mizrahi eschewed the usual straight walk down the runway and back, and had his models enter by climbing then descending a set of stairs. Then they followed intentionally obvious blocking lines and marks, like you’d see on a soundstage during dress rehearsals. One model had to cross under simulated rain, with a stage hand deploying an umbrella and escorting her through the sprinkles. The last model was shuttled out in an “EZ-GO” golf cart like a leading lady starlet traveling from her trailer to the set. The entire production was set to a live jazz ensemble that perfectly matched the action and mood of the theatrics. Bravo Mr. Mizrahi! Welcome back to the big show!!

Fern Mallis Interview
Fashion’s Night Out
Fern Mallis created “7th on 6th” while at the CFDA. Later it became New York City’s Fashion Week when IMG bought the event from the CFDA. Fern moved along with the event from the CFDA to IMG where she still works. Today Fashion Week is called “Mercedes Benz Fashion Week”. IMG is very big on having Fashion Week spoken/written with its main sponsor attached before it. They even sent out a press release to media outlets to refer to it that way. Fern has been described as the most influential person in fashion for all that she has done with Fashion Week. It occurs twice a year in New York City. Most major cities throughout the world host their own Fashion Week as well. These shows collectively generate billions of dollars, most of the revenue benefits the local economy of the host city. Well done Fern!

Le Doux Swimwear at Atlantis
Founded in 2005, Le Doux blends Brazilian sexiness with a relaxed California attitude to create a unique swimwear collection. Inspired by the passion, sensuality and beaches of Brazil, all suits are cut Brazilian style, but “culturally adjusted” with a little extra fabric. Each suit is made in a facility in Brazil by expert seamstresses in either crochet or lycra fabric, and hand-embellished with beautiful semi-precious stones, crystals, wood, shells, mother of pearl, or embroidery. The Brazil/California combo definitely works!
This video is comprised of a series of stills shot at the “Sun, Fun, & 21″ swimsuit contest held at the resort & casino Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. The competition featured some of the hottest bikini models from all around the United States. The celebrity judge was Kendra Wilkinson. All swimwear is by Le Doux.
